Fr Daryl George JCL - Parish Priest
Fr Daryl was trained for the Priesthood at the Diocesan Seminary, St John's Seminary, Wonersh, Near Guildford. Having been accepted by Bishop (now Cardinal Emeritus) Cormac Murphy-O'Connor to begin studies he started in September 1982. During his time at the Seminary he had pastoral placements in several parishes around the diocese (Woodingdean, Broadfield, St Leonards) as well as placements at a school (Cardinal Newman, Hove) and hospitals (West Park, The Manor, St Ebba's, Longrove and Epsom District). In July 1987 he was ordained to the Diaconate and was appointed to The Sacred Heart, Caterham.
Ordained to the Priesthood on 8th May 1982 in his home parish of St Catherine's, Littlehampton, Bishop Cormac decided he should remain in Caterham as the assistant priest. Since then he has been assistant priest at St Joseph's, Epsom and St John the Baptist, Brighton. After Brighton he was sent to study Canon Law at the Pontifical University in Leuven, Belgium. When he returned from further studies he was appointed as Parish Priest of The Holy Family, Reigate and as the Canonical Advisor to the Diocesan Marriage Tribunal based in Bishop's House, Hove.
In October 2007 he was appointed as Parish Priest of the newly formed East Worthing Parish (previously the parishes of The Holy Family, Lancing and St Charles Borromeo, Worthing), whilst still continuing his work at the Marriage Tribunal.
During his ministry as a priest Fr Daryl, as well as his work in various parishes and at the Marriage Tribunal has also been a regular Lourdes chaplain to both a children's group (travelling at Easter) for twenty-six years and an adult group (travelling during the summer) for thirteen years, of the HCPT Pilgrimage Trust. He has also been a chaplain on several Papal World Youth Days for the diocese (Paris, Rome, Toronto, Cologne and Australia).
Fr Daryl is also a long-time supporter of the Liverpool Football Club, although he doesn't get too obsessive about it!
